Ascend: Digital Tech Upskilling Through Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship-led training in software, AI, cloud and cybersecurity on live client projects.
Africa has no shortage of talented young people, but too few graduates leave university ready to work on real software. Ascend closes that gap. It is E&M's digital tech upskilling programme, built around apprenticeship rather than classroom theory, and it trains young professionals in software development, AI, cloud and cybersecurity while they work on live client projects.
Since 2023, more than 1,000 graduates have come through Ascend and moved into placements with E&M, our clients and the wider market. Apprentices learn from senior engineers at our innovation hubs in Tatu City and Kampala and build real minimum viable products. For corporates, Ascend is also a ready source of job-ready talent and a partner for upskilling existing teams.
